Experience      

Work for contractors, architects, consulting engineers, public entities, and individuals for structural engineering projects.  Major past projects have included:

 

     Dams – Flood routings and hydraulic analysis, structural design of spillways and outlet structures, inspections.

     Foundations – Footing designs for prefabricated steel buildings.

     Inspections –  Failure investigations, evaluation of deterioration of structural members, preparation of repair and rehabilitation plans.

     Miscellaneous - Retaining walls, underground shelters.

Senior Structural Engineer

Initial assignment with the Bureau was in the Design Section working with the Special Problems Unit on seismic design procedures and details for highway bridges.  A six-month assignment in the Foundations Unit followed with duties that included design and review of foundation treatments for bridge substructures and various types of retaining walls.

 

Current assignment is in the Design Unit with primary responsibilities including review of foreign structure plans for structural adequacy and conformance to Department policies, in-house design of transportation structures, and resolution of structural construction issues for Department of Transportation projects.

 

1994 – 1996            Curl & Associates, Inc.                          Centralia, IL

Chief Structural Engineer

Work performed while in this position included highway bridge replacements on the local system, commercial building expansions, foundation design, and structural investigations and reports.

 

1978 – 1994           Henry, Meisenheimer & Gende, Inc.            Carlyle, IL

Structural Engineer

Work with this company included over 170 bridge replacement projects on the State, County, and Township highway systems.  Typical responsibilities on these projects included field surveys and bridge inspections, bridge condition reports, structural bridge ratings, hydraulic reports, structural analysis and design, supervision of the preparation of detail plans, and preparation of special provisions and cost estimates.  Structural design of highway structures included precast, prestressed concrete beams, and continuous composite welded plate girders and wide-flange beams.  Design requirements ranged from single span structures on tangent alignment to three span continuous composite horizontally curved and superelevated structures.

 

Project assignments with this firm also included structural design of water and wastewater treatment plant tanks and control buildings.  Duties also included inspection and spillway rating evaluation of municipal dams.

Work performed with this firm included surveying, design, construction supervision, technical studies and reports for municipal projects including water treatment and distribution systems, storm water facilities and street improvements.
